Thank you very much for purchasing our "Mokugyo". We are a specialized manufacturer of mokugyo in Nagoya City, Aichi Prefecture. Since the establishment of the first generation, the second and third generations are currently working as craftsmen who manufacture Mokgyo.

2 We mainly manufacture mokugyo used in temples,The concept of the product name, Fukada Mokkojo's Mokugyo, is ``Cutting, carving, and carving wood creates a pleasant pok-pok sound. We will continue to connect the traditional techniques of making Mokugyo, which have been passed down in Japan since ancient times, to the future. I want as many people as possible to know about it and experience it for themselves,'' and I have tried to give form to this wish. We handcraft each "Mokugyo" one by one with the desire to "fit it into everyday household life."

Precautions for handling and storage

Mokugyo is not good at strong impacts because it has a hollow center. Please be careful not to drop the mokugyo from a height onto a hard floor or place heavy objects on the mokugyo, as it may break. Please use a special drumstick when performing. If you hit the mokugyo too hard with a plectrum, the surface may become dented. Because mokugyo is made only from natural wood, it expands and contracts depending on changes in temperature and humidity. Mokugyo may crack due to sudden changes in temperature or humidity. When storing Mokugyo, we recommend that you wrap it in the paper that came with the box when you purchased it and store it in a place where the humidity does not change significantly.

6 History of Mokugyo

Mokugyo is mainly used by monks as a beating tool to adjust the rhythm during sutra recitation. The name and design of Mokugyo comes from the fish whose eyes are always open, and also has the meaning of waking up from sleepiness during sutra recitation. The mokgyo used in temples come in a variety of decorative designs and come in a variety of f inishes, including those that are plain or those that are coated with lacquer.

7 It is said that the prototype of Mokugyo already existed in the Muromachi period. It is said that Mokugyo was first used in the way it is used today after a Chinese high priest introduced Mokugyo in the Edo period. The manufacturing process for Mokugyo, which has been passed down from ancient times, involves cutting wood, carving a shape from a log, and carving it to create a "Mokugyo" that makes a sound. Even today, we continue to manufacture Mokugyo using the process that has been passed down from ancient times.
